Description: |
The Scotch Block reservoir is located on a tributary of Sixteen Mile Creek and has an upstream contributing drainage area of approximately 36 km2. The dam maintains a storage volume of 1.6MM3 at a maximum operating water level of 253.6 m (832’) prior to overtopping the emergency spillway. This corresponds to a head pond surface area of approximately 32 ha. The main water-retaining structures include an earthen embankment dam approximately 120 m long and 15 m high, with 36-in. and 12-in. diameter low-level discharge pipes for low flow release, and a concrete emergency spillway weir controlled by an Obermeyer gate. The Obermeyer gate is a proprietary system that uses inflatable rubber bladders, similar to but smaller than those of rubber dams, to rise and lower hinged steel panels. Conservation Halton is undertaking an update to the Dam Safety Review (DSR) for the Scotch Block Reservoir to assess and confirm requirements for future structural updates to the spillway and wing walls. |
