Project Overview – CL boardwalk RFT
Crawford Lake Conservation Area is owned and operated by the Halton Region Conservation Authority (known as “Conservation Halton”) within Milton, Ontario. The Crawford Lake Conservation Area features spectacular natural and cultural heritage features such as a rare meromictic lake and a 500 year-old Ontario Heritage-designated Iroquoian village site. In combination with the Crawford Tract II Resource Management Area, the Conservation Area consists of 335 hectares of forests, comprising 50 different habitat types, expansive valley, wetlands, prominent escarpment cliff and rim features, and meadow habitat as well as several provincially and locally significant features.
There is a need to construct a new boardwalk trail. The existing boardwalk that encircles Crawford Lake, protecting the environment while allowing access, has reached the end of its lifespan. Portions of the boardwalk have been closed to the public due to safety hazards and non-compliance with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) guidelines.
The proposed upgraded boardwalk will follow, as much as possible, the existing alignment of the current boardwalk. Conservation Halton plans to complete the new boardwalk by September 2025. |
