Description:

Project Overview
WGCC is a 48.8-hectare golf course that operates as a private, members-only course and opened in
1963. The property contains 580 metres of the East Branch of Sixteen Mile Creek. Two thirds of the
property is within the Greenbelt / Region of Halton NHS and the front third of the property is
located within the South East Milton Urban Expansion Area.

Since 2002, the owners have noticed a drastic increase in bank erosion. Several feet of bank are
lost each year in certain sections. Pedestrian bridges are removed in winter with abutments
remaining (one bridge is permanent). The majority of riparian buffers are mown where they cross
golf fairways. Conservation Halton has been in discussion with the owners since 2017 about
restoration options and they are supportive of the works.

The section of Sixteen Mile Creek within the WGCC has been identified as an area that is ideal for
improving the habitat of the Silver Shiner. The section of creek through the golf course has been
anthropogenically altered in the past, is currently affected by encroachment from the ongoing
activities at the course. Some of these alterations to the creek have resulted in large sections of
backwatering, severely eroded banks, and narrow riparian buffers. This stretch of low-quality
aquatic habitat is not ideal for Silver Shiner populations to thrive, and are therefore being
targeted for rehabilitation as part of this project. Site images can be viewed in Appendix B

The intent of the request for proposal is to produce a detailed design brief, technical studies,
construction drawings, and tender specifications for the:

•  Ecological restoration of the project area based on the conceptual drawings;
• Natural channel design;
•  Riparian and floodplain restoration (including floodplain wetlands); and
•  Habitat enhancements for Silver Shiner, and other target species such as American Eel.
