Description:

Project Overview
The Glen Eden snowmaking water supply system currently consists of a 14-inch intake pipe into Kelso Reservoir feeding a 15-foot wet well, with pumping capacity of approximately 1,600 gpm under a water-taking permit that allows up to 2,400 gpm. To meet future operational needs, Conservation Halton is exploring the feasibility of upgrading the system to enable flows of up to 3,000 gpm, subject to regulatory approval. The project will involve evaluating and upgrading the wet well size, increasing the capacity of the intake system to allow greater water flow into the well, and installing higher-capacity pumps to deliver the required volumes. These improvements are intended to increase pumping capacity during peak cold periods, enhance system reliability by reducing risks such as cavitation, icing, or shutdown, and optimize use of reservoir storage while maintaining compliance with permit conditions and downstream flow requirements. Ultimately, the upgrade will strengthen long-term operational resilience, ensuring Glen Eden’s snowmaking capacity remains secure under changing climate and weather conditions while supporting consistent, high-quality recreational opportunities and protecting the natural resources of Kelso Reservoir through responsible water management.
